I have had a varied background growing up, from being an Eagle Scout, to holding a black belt in Judo. Growing up in Arizona and being the youngest of three boys from a very musical family, I found classical music and it became my passion. I began with piano at age 9, while also sang in many church musicals. In 2006 I graduated from Northern Arizona University with two degrees: a bachelors in vocal performance and a bachelors in piano/choral education. At NAU, I performed in many operas and piano recitals and spent three months in Germany teaching choir through the Department of Defense. Shortly after, I graduated with a masters in vocal performance from Washington University in St. Louis. The studies I learned from Wash U catapulted my love for teaching! Recently, I was teaching out of St. John School of the Arts, where I worked with voice and piano students ages 7-60. All of my students had varying styles, but I was able to help them build a foundation of technique that would allow them to sing with a free and healthy tone in any style. I believe we all have the ability to create music and I can help you discover it!

"Tom was recommended to me by a family friend with whom he had performed in the local Opera company when we were seeking a teacher to come to our home for private lessons for our kids. He taught my children, ages 5 and 7, for over a year and did a truly exceptional job. We'd had private piano instructors and done group lessons in the past but Tom was clearly the best teacher my kids have had. He was very reliable, disciplined and organized but also shaped his instruction and curriculum based on the interests of each of my kids. He incorporated voice instruction at times, to keep the lessons interesting for my very vocal little girl and helped train my older boy's ear a great deal. By the time they'd spent 3 or 4 months with Tom's guidance my 7/8 year old boy showed dramatic improvement at recognizing patterns in music and developed a real love for playing. He began seeking out the piano on his own, rather than only in response to reminders to practice. I recommend Tom. He is an excellent piano teacher. "

"After 10 years of "regretting" giving up on a musical instrument, I decided to give the piano a try. A friend connected me to Tom and ever since our first session, I have been reveling in the magic of music. In waking up a whole new part of my brain and stretching my mind and fingers to work in a whole new way, learning the piano has been an exciting and challenging journey. And Tom has been the perfect guide. He is fun, patient, supportive and firm to the fundamentals. Tom recognizes and addresses behaviors before they become bad habits. He offers tips and exercises that support the formation of proper technique. Most importantly, Tom loves music and his love shows through in his instruction which, as an aspiring beginner, is the most I could hope for from any instructor. "

""I joined the Ambassadors of Harmony championship chorus in January and needed coaching on the group's extensive repertoire in order to quickly prepare myself for performances. Within a few months Tom had provided me valuable advice to help me overcome the most challenging aspects of the songs. More importantly, he helped me to improve my vocal technique and subsequently I noticed my upper range increased by several notes - which enabled me to provide better support for my fellow high baritones. Tom is an outstanding vocalist and all-around musician; I highly recommend him to prospective students."

"Tom has been teaching our 8 year old son piano for the past year, and is fantastic. He is an excellent teacher and relates to Colton very, very well. Added bonus? We get to hear Tom sing from time to time during the lesson! I'd recommend him to anyone without hesitation. "

"Tom Sitzler is a fantastic voice teacher, musician and colleague. I have had the privilege of working with Tom on a number of occasions. I find Tom's voice teaching and coaching methods to be extraordinarily effective and properly tailored to each students abilities. He is dedicated to the success and development of his students. I recommend him without reservation. "

"I have studied voice with Tom Sitzler for the past several months. Although I have sung in choral settings for my entire life -- now in my late sixties -- Tom has helped me to become of much better musician and a more intentional singer. His patient, goal-oriented coaching and teaching continue to improve my vocal quality, range and musicianship. His even-tempered personality makes risking that impossibly high note an acceptable challenge."

"Tom has studied voice with me for close to 3 years and completed his MMus here At Washington University. He has a very fine voice. His Master's recital was simply outstanding in every way. In the Vocal Pedagogy class his previous teaching experience stood him well. He understands the vocal mechanism and already is well equipped with strategies to help a student on any level to improve. He also is one of the best pianists to pass through our program"
