I started learning armoured combat in 1988, and competed in armoured tournaments around California for 10 years. In 1999 I went to the UK and studied Medieval and Renaissance weapons and swordsmanship with a Maestro in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 2000 I started my school in the San Jose area, and have taught all over the Bay area, in Canada, the UK, and around the US at international martial arts conventions. I've competed in three International Rapier and Dagger tournaments and won 2 of those tournaments as well as competing Internationally in armoured and unarmoured long sword tournaments.
I have written a book called'The Beginner's Guide to the Long Sword' and I am currently working on another book called 'The Secret Language of Conflict'

"Steaphen Ficke knows how to move with medieval weapons. More importantly, he knows how to teach people to move with medieval weapons, which is even more rare. I've visited Davenriche in Santa Clara to study with Steaphen, and I've received classroom and private instruction from him at HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) events such as Fechtschule America 2011 in Houston. If you're lucky enough to live near his school in the SF Bay Area, google Davenriche right now and go take a class. Any weapon Steaphen teaches, he will teach you well."
