I Graduated with a BFA in Ceramics/Art History from the University of Montevallo - home to the most amazing Art Department, Professors, Students, and Art Offerings in the South! We were blessed with an amazing instructor and the opportunity to construct and fire three large kilns during my time in school (salt, coffin, and anagama). In addition, my passion and enthusiasm for Art History was born here, with a lot of help from the most amazing Art History professor, Cheryl Kramer - who offered me my first taste of curatorial work!

In addition, I was fortunate to spend eight years in Norfolk, Virginia as the Curator of Collections at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens (www.thfm.org) and as Ceramics Instructor at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens Visual Arts School. This inspirational part of my life provided me with opportunities to study and research art from around the world, but what shaped me the most was the outstanding Asian ceremonial bronze and ceramics collection. From the fang-ding decorated with taotie to the raku tea jars...each day provided discovery and inspiration...and the view of the Lafayette River from my office wasn't bad either. Weekly inspiration gained from pottery students and great friends...Jo, Carrie, Nikki, Marie, Bo, Tara, and others, will never be matched.

After moving home in 2009 for family reasons, I found my way to a new inspirational mecca - Black Belt Treasures. This wonderful non-profit is part gallery, part arts-education, part cultural center (www.blackbelttreasures.com) that represents artists from the Black Belt region of Alabama. It is here that I have met living legends who have reinstilled that art is in your soul and cannot be taught. Charlie Lucas, Sam Williams, Allan Ham...among many, many others, have been inspired by the people, stories, traditions, and history of this rich cultural region...and I have been inspired by them.

"Kristin's work is awesome! She has an incredible talent and a great eye for detail. She was a great teacher. I took several pottery classes with her and she was very patient and took the time to make sure that each of her students were getting the most from her classes. I would definitely recommend her classes and her work. I own some of her pieces. She has also exhibited her work in art galleries."
