Music has always been a central part of my life, and I started teaching piano lessons when I was just a teenager. I majored in music education and did post graduate work in conducting. I taught in the public schools for many years, even leading workshops at state music conventions on incorporating the dulcimers into the school music programs.

These days, I teach and perform not only in the Houston area, but all across the country at festivals, conventions, County fairs, churches and community events.

"If you have ever wanted to play the hammer or mountain dulcimer or needed some new music for your dulcimer library, Peggy Carter is the lady you need to contact. No matter your age or abilities, she can fulfill your needs. With a delightfully happy musical talent and a personality that enhances her ability to make her students and clients feel absolutely wonderful about what she offers them, Peggy is THE BEST. She is always logical, encouraging and available for questions and guidance even in the "Beginner's" level. In my "senior" years, I now spend many hours with the lessons from Peggy, both in book form and from her internet site. I am advancing towards my goal of playing the dulcimer beautifully and I know Peggy and her expertise are the reasons for my newly discovered joy. She is also a wonderful voice coach. Whatever you need in music, contact Peggy Carter. You will be delighted! Sincerely, Dottie Taylor "

"As a 3-year student of the Mountain Dulcimer, I have taken many workshops in an effort to learn as much as possible about this wonderful instrument. Peggy is, beyond a doubt, one of the best teachers, I've worked with. She is able to express her lessons in a concise, easy to understand manner and her tablature is wonderfully easy to read. Her arrangements are pure fun! "

"Since we live hundreds of miles apart, I take lessons from Peggy at festivals. She is personable, accomplished, fun-and I just lover her southern accent! I also buy arrangements from her montly program and have found these, along with the accompanying info and photos, to be wonderful"

"For many years, I admired the music of the hammer dulcimer but felt I could never master it. About four years ago, I bought a student model along with some books and tried to learn how to play it. I also acquired CDs of HD music to enjoy and one was 'Look Back with Love' by Peggy Carter. I would listen and say "How does she do that?" Peggy conducted a one day school in Pleasantville, Iowa. I had the pleasure of experiencing some of her excellent teaching. It was then that I gave her my email address. After a few months, I received and invitation to join her Dulcimer Circles; which I did. Each month, she puts up printable music, mp3 audio and excellent videos of performance and instruction on the internet directed exclusively to Circle members. Peggy is making it possible for me to understand 'How she does that.' All I have to do is add PRACTICE - PRACTICE - PRACTICE. Lisa Ellsworth"
