Becoming a fixture in the fashion world has been my dream for as long as I can remember. When I told my parents that I wanted to study fashion in college, they were not pleased. My dad is a doctor and my mom is a teacher, so they wanted me to pursue a “more legitimate” career like law or business. Deep down though, I knew that being a lawyer or an executive would perhaps provide me with a little more financial stability, but it would never make me as happy as it would to turn my life’s love of fashion into my life’s work. In college, I studied fashion merchandising and wanted to be active in everything fashion related. I joined the fashion club, signed up to be a buyer, and helped run a small pop up shop on campus. I also modeled in our school’s fashion show and studied abroad at the London College of Fashion. After I successfully completed several internships and a degree in fashion merchandising, I found myself in the real world and decided to pursue a position in retail visuals. I really just enjoyed making things look pretty. It wasn’t long before I found myself engaged as a visual specialist at Banana Republic. My steep learning curve and obvious enthusiasm about my work led to a swift promotion to merchandise presentation supervisor. I was excited about the pay raise, but soon discovered that retail management was far from the best possible outlet for my creativity. So, I began dreaming about everything else I could be doing. I did some research and a little soul searching, and eventually I concluded that my dream job was really working for myself as an image consultant. That made the decision easy. In the summer of 2008, I left my full-time position at Banana Republic and started my own brand, PaleChic. I wanted the name to reflect who I really am, a fair-skinned, sophisticated, fashionista. I’m also a self-declared nerd, so I have no problem admitting how much I love learning. To this day, I regularly take classes and participate in seminars through the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI). In February 2010, when offered a position as a wedding consultant at Priscilla of Boston, I immediately seized the opportunity to learn a new niche of the fashion world. Through my work as both an image consultant and wedding consultant I feel like I’ve unlocked my true calling. I have a natural ability to read people, make them feel good about who they are on the inside, and help them express that on the outside. I truly enjoy bettering myself and feel strongly that pursuing personal growth is just as important as helping others grow.
