Kat Wildish is a New York City master ballet and pointe technique teacher for students of all ages & levels, currently on faculty at The Ailey Extension Program. She performed with New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and numerous international companies including Zurich Ballet, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and The Eglevsky Ballet (under artistic director Edward Villella).She is an ABT® Certified Teacher, in Primary through Level 7 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum and has been teaching over 35 years. She mentors teachers for the Dance Educators of America and as a member of the U.S. Faculty of Education of the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Dance. She was a long-time teacher at Broadway Dance Center and was scholarship director and manager at Steps.A two-time recipient of the prestigious Ford Foundation Scholarship, she trained at the School of American Ballet. She has been schooled in all of ballet’s great pedagogical traditions: Vaganova technique at Milan’s La Scala under the direction of Rudolf Nureyev, and with her personal coach, former Kirov ballerina Kaleria Fedicheva; Cechetti tutelage from her mentor and friend Dick Andros; Balanchine style from her time at SAB.In addition to offering 12 open classes weekly at The Ailey Extension, she produces and directs 3 sold-out theatrical student showcase weekends each year, staging classical repertoire for her adult ballet students while inviting popular groups from all around to perform. She also teaches privately and coaches dancers for competitions like the Youth America Grand Prix.Kat has been cited in the media as a master teacher, notably in a New York Times article, “See You at the Barre,” by Daniel C. Wakin, (March 23, 2007), and in issues of Dance Teacher and Pointe magazines.. As a popular guest instructor, she has taught all across the world (Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and, most recently, Italy) and in states ranging from Florida to Alaska. www.katwildish.com
