I have been playing and teaching hammered dulcimer for over 30 years. I’ve played in several stringbands and taught in GA, N.C. & TN. I grew up around traditional old time music and dance. I love teaching and I love beginners because I can take some of the mystery out of learning what seems to be an overwhelming instrument. I teach solely by ear, so the student is training their ear while learning an instrument. This is how I learned and it is more true to the folk tradition, which is the origin of the Hammered Dulcimer.

" Thank you for the opportunity to share a bit about my experiences with Jennifer. I've had the privilege of being her step-mom for many many years now. I was privileged to be a part of her life when, as a very young teen, she discovered her love and passion for traditional folk music. She took her exploration of the lap dulcimer into quickly falling in love with the hammered dulcimer. Jennifer has never been a "showoff." Yet, when she plays, her skill and natural ability flows through her heart and her hands. The result seems like mesmerizing magic. If we lived closer together, I would sign up as one of her students in a heartbeat! By nature she is compassionate and supportive. As a teacher, she has a quality of gentle strength and ability to impart empowerment. Her communication skills are sensitive, encouraging and highly professional. I'm so grateful to her that she is giving students a chance for their lives to be impacted by her love of traditional folk music/hammered dulcimer and her teaching skills which can contribute to a student living their life at a higher potential. "I enjoyed my lessons with Jennifer. I would recommend her. She is a beautiful player and pleasant to spend time with plus I learned a lot. I was challenged with the concept of no printed music, just use your ear, but it worked! I also enjoyed learning "embelishments" which I hope to be able to use often."

"Thanks to Jennifer's teaching I learned to play my first song after just one lesson and have not looked back! She found an instrument for me to rent/play, she will work with you regarding how often you can meet, and she is a wealth of knowledge and experience that she willing shares. Her teaching style is suitable for youth and adults alike. I have tried to play several instruments and until I found Jennifer they were all epic fails. I'm proud to finally be able to say "I'm a musician!" THANKS Jennifer. "
