Masha Popova is the newly appointed principal flutist of the Des Moines Symphony. Masha recently was the first prize winner in the woodwind/brass division at the Young Texas Artist Competition. She also performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in the 2009-2010 season. She has performed as a member of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Lousiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival Orchestral, National Repertory Orchestra, and the Spoleto Orchestra. Masha received her B.M. in flute performance from the Curtis Institute of Music, and her M.M. at the Shepherd School of Music, where she held the Michael P. Hammond Scholarship. Her previous teachers included Leone Buyse, Jeffrey Khaner, and Donna Milanovich.
