Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you teach guitar for toddlers to 6 years old?

Most students this age tend to do much better with piano, which I also teach. Student who haven't yet reached elementary school tend not to have the dexterity needed to play, and struggle with the complexity of the guitar.

  • How long do students normally take lessons?

Most students take lessons with me for 2 years or more. The amount of progress made in that time, however, is completely up to the student!

  • What will my student need?

A guitar (1/2 size or 3/4 size for younger students), music stand, guitar tuner and metronome (available on most smart phones), guitar picks, and their books which I provide.

  • Do you teach music notation?

While I do teach music notation, I generally do not start off students with it. Music notation was developed for instruments such as the piano or flute, but makes very little since to a student learning guitar. I teach an older, simpler method known as Tablature. Tablature is the primary way that most modern music is written down and can be found in most guitar literature. Styles such as Classical and Jazz, however, do require knowledge of note reading.

  • I have an old, full size guitar. Will my 8 year old be able to play it?

Depends entirely on the student and the guitar. Full size guitars tend to be difficult to play for smaller people. Brands like Yamaha and Ibenez build good, inexpensive 1/2 and 3/4 size guitars.

  • Do you teach at homes?

I do! However, I only teach at homes in Lake Saint Louis and Wentzville, and only on Mondays.

  • Do you offer any kind of discount?

My studio offers a 30% on a month's tuition when a student takes lessons with multiple teachers, or recommends a new student. You'll also get a free lesson anytime you recommend a new student who begins lessons with me.
