I'm a 27 year old student of life. I just moved to Fayetteville, NC from Spokane, WA. I love Japanese, cross-stitching & helping ESL people learn English!

I've studied languages other than English for most of my life, and I discovered that, while I'm not very good with other languages, I am pretty good at helping people learn English. While at Eastern Washington University, I assisted foreign students from Asia University in Japan with their English skills & in coping with the cultural differences between Japan and America during their short visits to the U.S. While attending Spokane Falls Community College I worked with students at the Mukogawa Fort Write Institute, helping them cope with American culture & language while they were studying.

While most of my experience has been with helping Japanese students, I am willing and able to assist anyone who speaks English as a second (or third) language to learn.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long have you been stitching?

I don't remember the exact date I started, but I have been cross-stitching for about 15 years now.

  • Do you have any special training?

Well, there isn't really any special cross-stitching training like there is for cake decorating, but I am a DMC Mentor, which means I have a small suggested curriculum & some patterns they give me that are appropriate for beginning stitchers.

  • The craft isle at my local store is so confusing. How do I know what to buy?

That's part of what I'll teach you! Many decisions are about personal choice, but there are a few things that are better for you to use as a beginner & I'll help you with all of that.

  • I bought a kit at my local store, but it's really confusing & I don't know where to start. Can you help me with that or do I have to do your patterns?

Cross-stitching is about doing something that you love, so I would never *make* you choose one of the teaching patterns that I have to offer. I will definitely tell you the truth about the difficulty of the piece you've picked, but if that's where your heart is, we'll get you started right away!
