Dan Ruiter has been a freelance trombonist for over 15 years and the Music Director at O’Dea High School since 2004. He has performed with numerous musical theatre companies in the Pacific Northwest performing, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Chess, Guys and Dolls, Annie, and Crazy for You, to name a few. He was the bass trombonist for the Sioux County Orchestra for 2 years while living in Northwest Iowa. He has also worked as a drummer and percussionist for The Emmaus Road Band, 3 lb. Soul, The Big Bang Rhythm Society, The Throttle Body Motorcycle Club, and others too numerous to list.
Dan attended Dordt College, and graduated from Western Washington University, earning his BA in Music with an emphasis on Jazz Studies.
Dan is currently a member of 133rd Washington Army National Guard Band, performing on the Trombone in the Concert Band, Ceremonial Bands, the “Jazz Patriots” Big Band, and the Dixieland Combo.
Dan Ruiter has studied with Vance Shoemaker, Greg Cox, Gordon Cherry, David Ritt, and Rich Dahl. He maintains a private teaching studio and believes in the methods taught by Emory Remington.
