Pete is a retired high school science teacher and plays 5-string banjo, mandolin, hammered dulcimer. He has been playing 5-string banjo since 1973 and has been teaching how to play the instrument since 1974. He has played with a number of bluegrass and folk bands. In addition to Sunset, Pete is currently playing with the Buffalo Banjo Band which plays pre-1950s standards and is a backup musician for the Niagara Frontier Fiddlers Association. He also performs solo as “Sunset Pete”, playing traditional music and pre-1950s standards.
Since 1975, Pete has been an instructor for the Hamburg Central Schools continuing education program in which he leads a folk music jamboree and provides instruction on how to play folk music. He has written two instruction manuals on introduction to folk music and introduction to playing the 5-string banjo.
