Former owner of five retail stores, and a manufacturing executive, Dave graduated cum laude from Indiana University and completed his graduate work at Indiana Central University. His musical background includes over 30 years of professional playing and teaching in a variety of styles including jazz, rock, pop, blues, oldies, country and classical.
As a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Indianapolis local #3, and former director of their collective bargaining committee, Dave has an extensive background as a recording session player, arranger and composer. His credits include local and regional advertising jingles, albums, and international road tours with stage, television and radio performances.
Dave has performed with the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops, Steve and Eydie, Carol Channing, Robert Goulet, John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard), the Cathedrals, Gospel Messengers and Setser Singers. As a leader and contractor, stage performances include Cats, Miss Saigon, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Guys and Dolls, Westside Story, My Fair Lady, Camelot, Little Shop of Horrors and The Lion King.
Often found playing solo, fronting a trio or big band, Dave is available for your events, weddings or as a contractor for corporate meetings, training soundtracks and musical entertainment. Past club dates include the Murat Shrine, Broadmoor, Valhalla, Champions Pointe, Athletic, Columbia and Pendennis Clubs, Slippery Noodle, Stevie Rays, Phoenix Hill, Captains Quarters, River City Winery, Galt House, Brown, Seelbach, and a host of Ramada, Holiday Inn and Hilton Hotels.
Whether playing acoustic, electric, 6 or 12 string, rhythm, chordal melody or single line lead, Dave’s first love is teaching students of all ages and skill levels. Past students have gone on to professional careers after attending Julliard, Eastman, Indiana, Oberlin, Jordan and Evansville Schools of Music. Beginners, as well as accomplished players looking to improve their skills, benefit from Dave’s wide range of pedagogy using printed and downloadable materials, lessons individually tailored to each students need, group and band lessons, music theory workshops and recitals.
Dave counts Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Grant Green, Phil Underwood, Scotty Anderson, Earl Klugh, George Benson and Robin Ford among his influences, and enjoys living in Jeffersonville on the Ohio River.
