About Violin
The violin as we know it today was invented by Italian-born Andrea Amati in 1555. Although he was the first violin teacher and designer to really make a name for himself, the instrument didn't really take off until the late 1700's and early 1800's, when many large concert halls were constructed across Europe. This movement propelled the demand for violin teachers and violin lessons, but unfortunately, not everyone took to their teachings gracefully.

One such example was Joseph Merlin of Belgium, who's said to have invented roller skates. Merlin became a textbook example of "Violin Lesson Don'ts" when he introduced his invention to the public by roller skating, and subsequently crashing, into a full-length mirror while playing the instrument. Thankfully, that was in 1759, and any modern-day violin teacher knows better than to strap his or her student to a set of wheels.

These days, good violin teachers are in high demand, as many experts recommend that children begin taking violin lessons as early as three years of age. Those who have long graduated out of diapers should still consider taking a violin lesson, though, since there are many cognitive benefits to playing the instrument.
