About Saxophone
Before you take your first sax lesson, it's wise to know some saxophone basics. The saxophone is made of two major parts, the neck and the body. The neck is a removable tube where the mouthpiece attaches, and the body is a conically shaped brass tube. Players create different pitches by opening and closing the keys along the body. Did you know the saxophone was originally created for military bands?

Though sax lessons are usually associated with big band music, the saxophone is quite versatile and used in blues, rock and roll, and jazz. Charlie Parker, for example, was a famous saxophone player who influenced jazz in the 1940s. He took his first sax lesson when he was just 13 years old, and started playing professionally two years later.

Saxophone teachers can tell you that taking care of your sax is very important. Special cases provide protection, so pack up your instrument carefully after each of your sax lessons. Whether you want to join a blues band or rock out by yourself, the right saxophone teacher for you is out there. Search Betterfly’s saxophone teachers today and get playing!
