About Reiki
In the early 20th century, a Japanese Buddhist named Mikao Usui developed a technique that today we call Reiki healing or Reiki therapy. It is a holistic practice often classified as alternative medicine. The word Reiki means “higher power” (rei) and “life force energy” (ki).

Reiki practitioners are said to be attuned to a special life force that they can channel to others, thereby healing on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. The practice was originally developed in Japan, and today people worldwide say that Reiki therapy has helped relieve them of various physical and mental illnesses.

Many Reiki practitioners suggest undergoing Reiki healing treatment while also seeing a health care professional. It is thought that Reiki therapy actually helps improve the results of medical treatment by fostering optimistic thoughts and reducing negative side effects. People have commented that they feel very relaxed after their session.

During a Reiki healing session, you may lie on your back on a massage table, although every practitioner has his or her own method. The Reiki practitioner will place his or her hands on or near your body, typically around your head, shoulders, stomach and feet. Before seeking any treatment, it's important to ask your Reiki practitioner some questions such as: What training have you received? How long have you worked with Reiki? With some simple research, you can find the right one for you.
