About Photography
The first portable camera was invented in the 1660s, and with that, photography was born. Years later, a professor discovered a silver and chalk mixture that darkens when exposed to light, making it possible to develop permanent photographs.

Since then, photography classes have changed due to new inventions, ultimately ending in our detachment from the actual developing process. Traditionally, photography teachers would show students how to exposure their negatives in a darkroom and then go through the stages of chemical washes to produce a finished photograph.

While many photography teachers still see that as a valuable skill, today we can have someone else do the developing work for us or just upload digital images to our computers. Another aspect that makes photography classes particularly interesting today is learning about things like shutter speed, exposure time and metering. It’s easy to take a photography class with a camera that automatically measures these controls for you, but it’s even more exciting to control these elements yourself. An experienced photography teacher can show you how to change your camera’s shutter speed or exposure time to blur images, or adjust the aperture to increase or decrease the amount of light. These techniques are what make photography an art and a science.

Whether it’s just a hobby or you want to turn it into a career, taking a photography class is great experience. Let Betterfly help you find the right photography teacher so you can start snapping photos today.
