About Painting
Painting is a form of human expression that is as old as civilization itself. The first paintings date back some 32,000 years, engraved on rock using red and black pigments. Many of the earliest painters were responsible for conceptualizing religious and spiritual elements, or for recording history’s events and people. Then the invention of photography introduced a way to accurately record things, and painting became more about artful self-expression.

In the West, oil painting and watercolor were highly popular, while ink predominated in the East. There are dozens of other media that you might use during your painting classes, including pastels, acrylic paint or even spray paint. It’s also incredible how many bases you can work with beyond standard canvas—wood, glass, clay and concrete are all surfaces to be painted.

Taking a painting class also teaches you how to analyze and appreciate art; you realize the effort and creativity that goes into painting. Classes are a great way to relax and explore your creative side. Whether it’s your first or thousandth, Betterfly can help find the best painting class for you.
