About ESL
If you move to a country whose language is foreign to you, then it’s probably best to learn it. It sure makes it a lot easier to get around and communicate with people! In English-speaking countries like the U.S., we call this process English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons. Given that so many people come to the U.S. from other nations, it comes as no surprise that ESL lessons play a pretty big role in our education system and labor force. Many schools provide ESL tutors for students new to English, particularly in areas with high immigrant populations.

Currently there’s a rising debate as to whether the public school system should provide this type of assistance, so it may be necessary to seek an ESL tutor outside of the classroom.
Often times people assume that the closer one’s foreign language is to English, the easier it will be to learn it. But language is far more complicated—pronunciation, grammar and even nonverbal communications all play a role in learning a second language.

That’s why it’s important for ESL tutors to cover all the bases. Your first ESL lesson might start off with some basic vocabulary like “Hello” and “How are you?” and then transition to engaging in more in-depth conversations. As you continue to work with your ESL tutor, you’ll become more confident interacting with other native speakers. So don’t be shy—let Betterfly help you set up the right ESL lesson for you.
