About Clarinet
The clarinet is both a single instrument and a group of instruments in the woodwind family.

If you've haven't played a single-reed instrument before, your first clarinet lesson could focus on how to cover the reed with your lips and blow air into the clarinet. Lessons are also a great way to explore different types of music. Some clarinet teachers might specialize in classical music, while others focus on rock, pop or jazz. Did you know jazz players sometimes refer to the clarinet as the "licorice stick"?

Another good intro to the clarinet is understanding how it works. Your clarinet teacher can explain the five parts ? the mouthpiece, barrel joint, upper joint, lower joint and bell. Assemble all pieces together and inset a fresh reed into the mouthpiece to get ready for your clarinet lesson. Covering the various holes and blowing air into the mouthpiece will create different sounds.
